    Director of Programs

    April joined the Sorensen Institute in August 2008 and currently serves as Director of Programs. In this role she has primary responsibility for overseeing all of the Sorensen Institute's programs, including all program analysis and evaluation. She is also responsible for coordinating and executing recruitment and outreach efforts for all Sorensen programs.

    Office Manager, Volunteer Coordinator

    Tracy Tanner Bond is looking forward to receiving soon her twenty-five year service award from the University of Virginia.  Before joining Sorensen in 2006, her background at the University has been diverse, from experience in the Bursar's Office, Construction and Facilities Management and Real Estate Contract Administration.

    Development and Events Coordinator

    As Development and Events Coordinator, Rachel is responsible for the logistical arrangements for all Sorensen Institute programs and special events. She also provides support in the area of development, helping with donor stewardship and cultivation.  Before coming to Sorensen, Rachel oversaw the publications section of the National Drug Court Institute in Alexandria, Virginia.  She is a 2005 graduate of the College of William and Mary, where she studied Government and Religion. She is also a graduate of the College Leaders Program Class of 2005.

    Executive Director

    Before coming to Sorensen in March of 2008, Bob Gibson was a political writer, columnist and editor at the Charlottesville Daily Progress for 30 years, where he specialized in covering local, state, and national politics. He is the winner of several Virginia Press Association awards, the 1993 Virginia Bar Association Award in the Field of Law and Justice and the 1993 Southern Journalism Award for investigative reporting about racial disparities in sentencing. He is also familiar to many Virginians as a guest on public radio WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi Show in Washington and as a host of Evening Edition on public radio WVTF.

    Youth Program Director

    As Youth Program Director, Lauren is responsible for overseeing recruitment for and implementation of the College and High School Leaders Programs of 2012. Lauren is a graduate of the College Leaders Program Class of 2009 and returned to Sorensen as a Youth Program Manager in 2010. She is a native of Alexandria, Virginia, and graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. in Political Science.

    Marc Johnson

    College Leaders Program

    Class of 2003

    Marc is the Associate Director of the Tayloe Murphy Center at the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business. He is the former Assistant Director and Director of Programs at the Sorensen Institute. In 2005 Governor Warner appointed him to the Virginia Commission on National and Community Service, and he was reappointed by Governor Kaine in 2006.
