CTP Alumni News
We're in the middle of accepting applications for our 2012 Political Leaders and Candidate Training Programs. If you or someone you know would be a strong applicant, please encourage them to apply today, before the November 14th deadline passes them by.
The Political Leaders Program is a leadership development program for residents of Virginia interested in becoming more active in public service. Participants spend one weekend a month from March through December traveling across the state along with 35 other civic-minded individuals. The cost of the Political Leaders Program is $2,250, though financial assistance is available.
The Candidate Training Program, set for Jan. 19-22 at Montpelier, is an intensive, four-day program focused on the fundamentals of running a winning campaign for office. Participants will explore the nuts and bolts of building a strong campaign from the ground up, with a focus on Virginia. The cost of the Candidate Training Program is $900 for an individual room, and $750 for a shared double room.
Sorensen seeks participants from all political affiliations, socio-economic backgrounds, and professions from Virginia. Scholarships and tuition assistance are available.
Adam Tolbert (CTP 2008) is seeking the office of Smyth County Treasurer in this year's election. This is his first campaign for elected office after completing the CTP.

John Hardy Willson (CTP Spring 2010; PLP 2011) was recently appointed to the position of Vice President-Membership of the Hanover County Historical Society by their Board of Directors. The Hanover County Historical Society, Inc., a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, was formed on April 2, 1967. The mission of the Society is, "To promote Hanover County's rich history and heritage," through research, assistance to citizens and organizations, educational programs and advocacy in historical site preservation. The Hanover County Historical Society works hand in hand with other Hanover associations, such as the Hanover Tavern Foundation, Historic Polegreen Foundation, and the Hanover County Black Heritage Society, as well as in statewide and national initiatives.
Congratulations to the Candidate Training Program Class of Winter 2011, which graduated this past weekend.

Spotsylvania Republican Bryce Reeves (PLP 2009; CTP Winter 2010) is challenging Sen. Edd Houck for the 17th District Virginia Senate seat. His campaign kickoff tour of the district begins this Sunday, November 13.

Last night, for the first time, Sorensen alumni were elected to serve in the United States House of Representatives. The Sorensen Institute would like to congratulate both Scott Rigell (VA-02) and Robert Hurt (VA-05) on their successful campaigns. In addition to this historic election, five other Sorensen Alumni won their local campaigns yesterday. The Sorensen Institute sends its congratulations to:

These candidates join more than one hundred of their fellow Sorensen Alumni who serve in elected office across the Commonwealth. They are a testament to the Sorensen idea that politics can be about the heated clash of ideas, but that our differences do not have to divide us.
Kala Quintana (PLP 2008; CTP Winter 2009) was appointed to to the Fairfax County Park Authority Board as the Chairman's at-Large representative. Congratulations, Kala!
Jen Little (PLP 2007; CTP Spring 2010) was recently selected as one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Inside Business, the Hampton Roads business journal. She will receive the award tonight, October 14, in Norfolk. Jen's profile, as well as the full list of honorees, is available here.
Bryan (PLP 2008; CTP 2009) and Lynne (PLP 2009) Rhode welcomed Bryan Michael Rhode, Jr. at 3:06pm Saturday, October 9. Congratulations, Bryan and Lynne!

Participants spend one weekend a month from March through December traveling across the state along with 30-32 other civic minded individuals. Cost of the Political Leaders Program is $2250.
The Candidate Training Program is an intensive, four-day program focused on the fundamentals of running a winning campaign for office. Participants will explore the nuts and bolts of building a strong campaign from the ground up- all within the context of ethics and principled public service. Cost of the Candidate Training Program is $750 for a double room and $900 for a single room.
