John Thomas is the Director of the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.  He began his public service career as a teacher and administrator in the Toledo, Ohio public school system.

Since then John has served as director or executive director for a number of public service organizations including the National Association of Counties (NACO), the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), the Florida Association of Counties (FAC), the Toledo Ohio Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, and the Illinois Department of Public Aid where he was assistant to the Director.  He has served in a consultation capacity to a number of governments and organizations. 

John earned his Doctor of Public Administration at the University of Southern California.  He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, a congressionally chartered organization composed of 400 leaders in the field of public management.

    A co-founder of Virginia21, the nation's first political action committee for college students, Brian has served as an aide to Governor Mark Warner. He is currently the Director of YRichmond, which helps to bring college interns to Virginia's capital city. In September 2007 Brian made the annual "Top 40 Under 40" list in Richmond's Style Weekly magazine.
